OPUS Theatre Company

OPUS Theatre Company was created in 1987. The first production was Charles Dyer’s ‘Rattle of A Simple Man’ which played to excellent reviews and was the start of things to come. OPUS then staged, Wilde’s ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’, Pinter’s ‘The Caretaker’ and Willy Russell’s ‘Educating Rita’.

OPUS have gone from strength to strength and in 2007 we staged a  totally new and original work written by Artistic Director, Gerry Hinks. ‘Confessions of Honour’ toured the West Midlands during the Autumn of 2007 to critical acclaim and now in autumn of 2008 we are about to launch a new, more comprehensive tour of the play which begins on September 12th 2008.

OPUS are also delighted to announce that two WORLD PREMIER plays will be staged by the company next Spring on top of our tour of the hilarious comedy by Bill Cashmore and Andy Powrie, ‘Bride or Groom?’ Which begins its tour on the 28th February 2009.

The new premier plays are by Lichfield writer and theatre critic Phil Preece and consist of two monologue pieces called ‘My Diet From Hell’ and ‘Such a Laugh’ as well as a superb new comedy set in a failing northern Hairdressers called ‘House Of Pain’. Both of these pieces will start their life at the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield during March and April of 2009.

Growing Old Disgracefully’, which toured during the spring of 2008, was a wonderful success. The first night was a sell-out with one audience member saying ‘That was the best ten pounds I have ever spent!’   Praise indeed!
